Director of Performance Marketing

Deutsch LA is seeking a director of performance marketing to lead and run the performance marketing practice. The right person for this senior leadership position will provide thought leadership as well as lead and guide conversion programs, including strategy, creative and content. The director of performance marketing will be hands on and will work with internal/external key specialists in Media, Creative, Connections Planning, Performance Analytics and Account Management with a focus on the content: guiding the creation, implementation, testing, optimization, and beyond. Experience with the following areas is imperative:
· Leading a multi-disciplinary performance team
· Ability to provide creative strategy and support creative/content needs
· Lower funnel marketing, especially paid social, search, display and digital video content
Responsibilities:
You are a proven leader in performance marketing, an established voice and expert in getting the most out of a response-driven campaign. You oversee the full workstream from beginning to (never) end(ing), understanding how to collaborate and direct all aspects of acquisition and retention programs. You are the champion of purposeful experimentation.
· Own the performance marketing client relationship and understanding of the client’s business – how it works, how it’s performing, and how the lower funnel performance activities contribute and connect to the overall business.
· Manage, optimize, and expand programs for all conversion channels to maximize the profitability of the performance marketing spend.
· Collaborate and integrate through full funnel workstream and content.
· Champion experimentation in distribution and content, always striving to drive growth – at scale and backed by data-based findings.
· Lead the full performance marketing workstream – from working with media to define the assets needed, developing the strategy, creating hypotheses for testing and experimentation, guiding the creative team to create the right content, and partnering with analysts to determine how to optimize the creative.
· Create clear and actionable frameworks (and other artifacts) for how to implement performance marketing programs.
· Ensure team deliverables are coordinated and met in a timely, rigorous, and accurate fashion.
Requirements:
· 15+ years of experience, with a focus on acquisition, performance, or direct response marketing.
· Proven success leading a growth or performance practice – agency or brand side.
· Deep understanding and experience across performance marketing channels, demonstrating depth and breadth of strategic and tactical knowledge of how different performance marketing channels can drive customer and business goals.
· Must have working knowledge across response-driven channels, especially paid social, search, display, digital video, as well as organic.
· Understanding of customer acquisition strategies, subscription-based business, and related CAC/LTV focused campaigns.
· Comfortable working collaboratively across multiple departments.
· Background in performance creative strategy is required, account management experience is helpful.
· Experience providing direction on creative content and optimizations, based on creative performance analyses.
· Expertise in lower funnel activation best practices (search, social, programmatic content).
